September @ Beit Juhuro

September at Beit Juhuro was a true new beginning for Beit Juhuro. We started the year at our new location with uplifting prayers lead by a special chazan from Israel, Gabriel Shagabaev as Baal Koreh and Baal Tokeah, lunch meals both days sponsored in memory of Dina bat Adriil and 80 people attending the Yom Kippur prayers.

From Rosh Hashanah until Shabbat Shuva there has been a Slichot Minyan meeting at 6:30 am every morning at Beit Juhuro. What an incredible Kidush Hashem and major milestone for our community!

One of the most memorable events this month was our annual midnight Melave Malka and Selichot event. A delicious Melave Malka meal with Lechaims was served after the Shabbat, the Hatarat Nedarim ritual (annulling unfulfilled vows and promises)  was performed and the last Slichot of the year were recited with much energy and joy. The Kidush was generously sponsored by Diana Daniloff and the expenses for the meal were covered by Sevi and Erica Avishalom in gratitude for being, Baruch HaShem, saved from a car accident.

We would also like to thank all the people that contributed to help buying the books for the High Holidays!

Our condolences go to the families of Nick Ilishayev, a remarkable young man who died in a motor vehicle accident, and Josh Sorscher, a young father and owner of Shuey’s Takeout who passed away after battling cancer for 2 years. Baruch Dayan Haemet!

The Gorsky Wednesday classes are continuing to run at full force. In September we covered the topics “Laws and customs of Rosh Hashanah”, “Laws of Yom Kippur and the ritual of Kaparot” and the “Laws of Sukkot”. We are looking forward to the next meeting!

NEW!

Rabbi Zitron is giving excellent classes now for young women ages 18-30 as part of Project Light. One of the topics this month was “Tshuva out of love”. He also spoke for Beit Juhuro on “The test of life” and “The key to earning a favorable judgement”. The recordings can be found below.

September 2019 @ Beit Juhuro

In September we fulfilled the Mitzwa of Challah with our wonderful ladies, successfully conducted our first Hebrew Crash Course session and had the honor to welcome not one but three guest speakers at Beit Juhuro.

One of the highlights this month was the Challah baking master class with Mrs. Diana Dina Davydova which took place on the eve of the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashana.  Diana taught the ladies how to braid Challah and gave a lecture about this special Mitzwa.

Huge thanks to Regina Bakshiyev, Diana Daniloff, Natalie Berezner, Diana Dina Davydova and all the wonderful volunteers who made this Beit Juhuro challah bake a huge success!
